artist info
Legendary Percussionist Pete Escovedo is an artist who broke down the barriers between Smooth Jazz, Salsa, Latin Jazz and contemporary music. His name has been synonymous in the music industry for more than 50 years. Pete is known worldwide for his live performances, session work and solo albums.
Pete Escovedo has recorded 9 acclaimed solo albums, 2 albums with his daughter Sheila E., and the Latina Familia live album with Sheila E. and Tito Puente. His 2018 Grammy-nominated release Back to the Bay celebrates the music scene in the Bay Area from Pete's first gig at the California Hotel's Gold Room in 1953 to the diverse blend of music which had emerged by the '70s and is now known as the Bay Area Sound.
"With this new project, I wanted to reach back and taste all those wonderful flavors of music that sadly aren't as common as they used to be." - Pete Escovedo.
In 2017 he completed and released his personal account of his life as a musician, artist, and patriarch of his musical family in his new memoir, My Life in the Key of E. This has been a dream of his that has taken 5 years to manifest, and one that he earnestly wants to share with all his fans, friends and family.
In his memoir, My Life in the Key of E, Escovedo describes the ups and downs of his extraordinary life and career, starting with his early years navigating family disconnection and poverty. He then artfully narrates his more than six decades as a devoted family-man nurturing his musical progeny, while he also chronicles key moments in his own ground breaking musical career. And along the way, he provides a fascinating depiction of his collaborative adventures with some of the very best in musical history. It's a thoughtful and revealing look into the life of a musical icon, as well as a vulnerable exploration of the private questions, yearnings, costs and victories that can accompany the passionate pursuit of an artist's dreams.
________
Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, now residing in Oakland, California, independent recording artist Leah Tysse has performed across the US, Europe and Asia as a solo artist and backing other recording artists. Her Oakland-based band of heavy-hitters is a force on the indie music scene, bringing her own brand of soul & blues to a loyal fan base. She digs deep for every performance, connecting with her audience and the music in a raw way. Her songs are clever and take people on a sensual, rhythm-infused trip.
Billboard awarded Ms. Tysse with a songwriting award, "Best R&B Song", for her song "You Don't Scare Me" from her debut album "Real Good Fire" in 2008. Her sophomore album 'Love Again' was subsequently released and played for audiences across the country and her much-anticipated third album is in production. For over a decade Leah has also been a featured soloist with the world-famous Glide Memorial Church Choir in San Francisco (Rev. Cecil Williams) with whom she has performed everywhere from the World Expo in Shanghai to The Pursuit of Happiness motion picture with Will Smith.
Leah has been fortunate to share the stage and record with a range stellar artists such as: Sheila E., Narada Michael Walden, Pete Escovedo, Stevie Wonder, India.Arie, Evelyn Champagne King, Ronnie Spector, Confunkshun, Howard Hewett, Michael Franti (of Spearhead), Levi Seacer (of Prince), Ashford & Simpson, Tom Johnston (Doobie Brothers), Taj Mahal, Katherine McPhee, Jamie Oliver, Lucinda Williams, Patti Austin and Aimee Mann.
